Nancy, please forward meeting invitation to Roundtable distribution – thank you.
Hello Roundtable folks,
Our next CSR-EM Roundtable Alliance safety professional development meeting is Tuesday, May 12th at 10:00. Subject is Reasonable Suspicion Training w/certification.
Wayne P. Estes, PA-C, Director, Atmed Occupational Medicine, A division of Atmed Treatment Center, Inc. Johnston, RI www.atmedocc.com will conduct certificate level suspicion training. We have long talk about holding this now 2 hour class in conjunction with a regular meeting. It is finally here.
SUPERVISOR TRAINING REQUIREMENT Each of the DOT rules requires employers to provide training for supervisors of safety-sensitive employees. The training must include specific information on the physical, behavioral, and performance indicators of probable drug or alcohol use. Supervisors who may make reasonable suspicion test determinations must complete at least 2 hours of supervisor training—one hour on signs and symptoms associated with drug use and one hour on signs and symptom associated with alcohol misuse. The 2 hour requirement is considered minimum. Any company is allowed to exceed these requirements. I.e. Greenwood Industries Supervisor Reasonable Suspicion class is a four hour program. Employers must maintain documentation of the Supervisor’s participation in the required training. DOT Supervisor’s Guide – Drug Revised November 2002
Supervisors and other company officials who may be called on to make a reasonable suspicion determination are required to have 60 minutes of training on the physical, behavioral, and performance indicators of probable drug use, and at least 60 minutes of training on physical, behavioral, speech, and performance indicators of probable alcohol misuse. Supervisors are only required to have this training one time, and there is no regulatory requirement for refresher training. If all of your company’s supervisors have already had this training, then the company’s choice to not provide additional training is acceptable.
