Our next CSREM Roundtable Alliance safety professional development meeting is Tuesday, February 12th at 10:00. This month’s topic is Opioid Awareness in Construction. 

Speakers in order of presenting are:

Shaun Carvalho, Vice President – Safety,  Shawmut Design and Construction. Opioid awareness from a contractors perspective.

Douglas P. LaPlante, Safety Director, Turner Construction, (617) 592-3157. Opioid awareness from a contractors perspective.  

Timothy S. Irving, Assistant Regional Administrator/Cooperative and State Programs, US DOL/OSHA. Region I has taken the lead for OSHA in creating awareness of Worker Wellbeing and is concentrating its outreach on the high rate of occupational suicide and opioid deaths in New England. Of the 5,147 occupational fatalities in 2017, 275 were Death by Suicide and 272 were Unintentional Overdoses or a total of 10% fall into these two categories  OSHA has issued a new workplace 24/7 challenge: Don’t just ensure your workers go home safe – Make sure they come back to work healthy the next shift.
